suro & boyo
📍Kecamatan Kenjeran
The suro and boyo statues symbolize the courage of Surabaya youths in defending their territory against danger. This was when Raden Wijaya survived the attack and threat of the Tar-Tar army. Later, the day of victory was used as the birthday of Surabaya City.
The statue symbolizes Suro and Boyo, which means shark and crocodile respectively, and has become a symbol of the City of Heroes. In fact, the symbol has been used since the Dutch colonial era.
In Surabaya, there are three statues that can be found, including the Skate and Board Park on Ketabang Kali Street, the Monument standing on the Kalimas Riverbank, and on Kenjeran Beach Street.Among the three statues, the statue on Kenjeran Beach Street is one of the largest.
