This West Kalimantan (Kalbar) Malay Traditional House is located in the Cultural Village Complex, Jalan Sutan Syahrir, Pontianak City. Historically, the construction of this Malay Traditional House began with the erection of the first pillar on May 17 2003 until it was completed in 2005. Next, on the 9th November 2005 The West Kalimantan Malay Traditional House was inaugurated by the Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia Jusuf Kalla. Since its inauguration, the building stands on an area of 1.4 hectares and has become the center/venue for holding various activities, wedding receptions and one of the visiting destinations for local and foreign tourists. The nature of the house/hall space is a place for community activities and social activities, including a place for holding deliberations and so on. The expression above gives an indication that the house/hall room symbolizes the philosophy of life of mutual cooperation, shared destiny and social solidarity in the Malay community, "Tradition is upheld, culture is celebrated". Adat Melayu also functions as a deliberation place for the Malay Traditional and Cultural Council (MABM) which plays a role in organizing various Malay cultural events in West Kalimantan, one of which is the Malay Cultural Arts Festival.
The architectural art and typology of the traditional Malay house is a house on stilts or under a roof, and has high pillars. This is in accordance with the local climate and customs that have been passed down from generation to generation. The height of the pillars supporting the house is around two to two and a half meters. The atmosphere in the room is cool and fresh because it has lots of windows and ventilation holes. Based on the shape of the roof, the West Kalimantan Malay Traditional House has a folding kajang roof (a house with a steep roof) which is triangular with a height of approximately 30 degrees, which has the function of filtering hot air so that it does not get trapped inside the room of the house. The position of this building is perpendicular to the main road, which is called Rumah Perabung Melintang. Apart from that, at the bottom there is a fairly high floor. Especially for the ornaments of this building, it is a combination of ornaments from the palaces in West Kalimantan. The beauty of the Malay Traditional House area is even more beautiful with the garden decorated with neatly arranged flowers. Not only that, this building is decorated with a beautiful and clean fountain.
Apart from the architectural exoticism and typical ornaments of West Kalimantan Malay Traditional Houses which are interesting to immortalize, the charm of typical Melau culinary delights can also be enjoyed by visitors in this area. At the bottom of this building, there is a restaurant which provides a typical Pontianak Malay culinary menu. In accordance with the concept, this restaurant also decorated in such a way that the Malay style looks very strong. Approximately 50 types of dishes are available in this restaurant. The special menu includes spicy sour fish, grilled fish, mackerel fish boto, basil fish pepes. Meanwhile, typical Indonesian dishes include cah pakis, pandan grilled chicken, opor free-range chicken and salted fish petai sauce. Apart from that, there are also coconut shoots, bamboo shoots, botok, lecak, pineapple pajri. Cencalok, tempoyak, satur taro, sour vegetables. For drinks, there is also rujak water, sherbet water and if you mix it with milk it will change its name to strup. This restaurant has been known for its typical Malay and Indonesian cuisine since 20 years ago. Every day, the food menu is varied to be flexible but still provide a typical Pontianak Malay sensation.
