The main thing that darkens purgatory (Barzakh) is talking behind people's back, backbiting, slander. One of the things that brightens the purgatory is untangling(solving) people's work. On one hand purgatory is darkened by the sins, and on the other hand, good deeds brighten the world of the grave and purgatory.
