PARSHURAMESHWAR TEMPLE

📍Bhubaneswar

The Shailodbhava period, between the 7th and 8th centuries CE, is when the Parsurameswara temple, which is situated in the East Indian city of Bhubaneswar, the capital of Odisha, India, is thought to be the best preserved example of an early Odia Hindu temple. One of the state's oldest still-standing temples, it is devoted to the Hindu god Shiva. It is thought to have been constructed around 650 CE in the Nagara style and possesses all the essential components of temples built in the pre-10th century Kalinga architecture style. The temple belongs to the group of temples dedicated to Parashurameshvara. The vimana (sanctum) and bada (curvilinear spire) of the Parashurameshvara Temple both rise to a height of 40.25 feet (12.27 metres). As opposed to older temples, which just featured the vimana, this one has a second building called the jagamohana. Even though the temple is dedicated to Shiva, it has carved representations of Shakta gods that are typically found in Shakta temples. The temple is the first in Bhubaneswar to contain depictions of Saptamatrikas, namely, Chamunda, Varahi, Indrani, Vaishnavi, Kaumari, Shivani and Brahmi. #odisha #india #pindleindia
