Here's a flatlay of our favourite Holi sweet, Gujhiya. Gujhiya is a traditional Indian sweet that is commonly prepared during the festival of Holi, which is celebrated in the northern regions of India. It is a crescent-shaped pastry that is typically filled with a sweet mixture of khoya (dried milk), nuts, and cardamom. The pastry is then deep-fried in ghee (clarified butter) until it is crispy and golden brown.
Gujhiya is an important part of the Holi celebrations in many Indian households, and it is often served alongside other traditional sweets and snacks. In some parts of India, it is also known as Karanji or Kajjikayi.
To make Gujhiya, a dough is prepared by mixing flour, ghee, and water. The dough is then rolled out and cut into small circles. The filling is prepared by mixing khoya, sugar, chopped nuts, and cardamom powder. A spoonful of the filling is placed on each circle of dough, and the edges are folded and pinched together to form a crescent shape.
The Gujhiya is then deep-fried in hot ghee until it is crispy and golden brown. Once cooked, it is removed from the ghee and allowed to cool before serving. It can be stored in an airtight container for several days.
