πŸ“New Territories

The Shing Mun River in 1981. The surrounding area is now well-developed with a high density of buildings. Many buildings, including industrial and residential buildings, located at the bank of Shing Mun River. The original Shing Mun River began at Needle Hill, and flowed into the former Tide Cove (Sha Tin Hoi), a shallow bay. In the 1970s, Tide Cove was reclaimed and turned to Sha Tin New Town. The river was extended through a 7 km long, 200 m wide artificial channel in the middle of the area to flow into Tolo Harbour. Other rivers that had originally flowed into Tide Cove are now tributaries of Shing Mun River in the form of concreted nullahs. The Shing Mun River channel runs from the Tai Wai area, through the Sha Tin town centre to the Tolo Harbour. It has three main tributaries, namely Tai Wai Nullah, Fo Tan Nullah and Siu Lek Yuen Nullah. Along the Shing Mun River are high-rise residential, commercial and industrial buildings with numerous village-type developments such as City One Shatin and Wo Che Estate scattered around. Several bridges were built to connect the two sides of the Shing Mun River. Sha Tin, also spelt Shatin, is a neighbourhood along Shing Mun River in the eastern New Territories, Hong Kong. Administratively, it is part of the Sha Tin District. Sha Tin is one of the neighbourhoods of the Sha Tin New Town project. The first plan for development in Sha Tin was approved by then Governor-in-Council in 1961. Sha Tin has grown from a rural township of 30,000 people in the early 1970s to a major new community, including an extension at Ma On Shan, of about 640,000 people today. Hong Kong leader Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor has vowed to learn from the troubled construction of the city’s most expensive rail project, a key stretch of which is slated to open on Sunday after repeated delays and cost overruns. At a ceremony on Saturday ahead of the full opening of the Tuen Ma line – whose Tai Wai-Hung Hom section comprises part of the HK$90.7 billion (US$11.7 billion) Sha Tin to Central link – Lam admitted the rail project had been beset by challenges over the years. β€œThe Hong Kong government, MTR Corporation and our construction teams have deemed every challenge a motivation for innovation. We have sought to resolve the problems facing us and also learn our lessons to ensure smooth sailing for future projects,” she said. πŸ“location :Sha Tin #pindleIndonesia #christmasvibes
