Falcha; Ancient Resting station

📍भक्तपुर

Commonly known as Patis, Falchas are well respected as communal spaces that serve various roles from being a place to hold meetings to an important space for festivities and celebrations. On a community level, falcha had a rather amiable role. In a time before internet, cell-phones, television, and other modern leisure activities, it was in falchas that people shared juicy gossip, rumors, and just hung out. Serious agendas or everyday problems were shared and discussed in these very falchas. It was here that children played house, won marble matches, and forged life-long friendships. In a bygone era when neighborhood was home, and neighbors were family, falchas brought people together. The elder citizens could share their concerns and chat smoking the Hukka. People used to share their knowledge and experiences and provide solutions for problems of their relatives and neighbors. The place was also used to conduct cultural programs. Such regular shows helped in conserving the culture by transferring traditional knowledge and skill to the future generations. It was also used for performing religious recitals, Bhajans. This mechanism of bringing people together helped in creating good relationship amongst each other. #Guidebook #MeetLocals #travelnepal #PindleNepal #Nepal🇳🇵
