Panjat Pinang

Being not able to celebrate the Independence day for the last two years due to the Pandemic, makes this year so special. The festive atmosphere is everywhere. People couldn’t wait until the celebration come, so they can take a part in the fiesta. It is known that before and after the D-Day, which is 17th August, some competition and match were held everywhere in the neighborhood. Both, in the city, or in the village. I was so happy to be able to watch some of them, especially the funny competition, called Panjat Pinang. People devided into some groups of 7-8 persons. And they were given 5 minutes each to climb the 6 meters big bamboo pole that is already rubbed with lubricant and vaseline. Now you can imagine how slippery it is!! Some pieces of paper were hung on the top of the pole, with the prizes written on it. Could be money, kitchen appliances, clothes, and many more. This time, the highest prize was a goat!! Considering most of the people live in my neighborhood are farmers, that prize is definitely something worth to get! You want to know what happened during the process? Keep checking my page.
