TheĀ Golden Bauhinia Statue,lokaced at The Golden Bauhinia SquareĀ (Chinese:Ā éē“«čå»£å “) is an open area inĀ Wan Chai,Ā Hong Kong. The square was named after the giant statue of a goldenĀ Bauhinia blakeanaĀ at the centre of the area, situated outside theĀ Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, where the ceremonies for theĀ handoverĀ of Hong Kong and the establishment of theĀ Hong Kong Special Administrative RegionĀ were held in July 1997. A flag-raising ceremony is held every day at 8:00 am. It is considered a tourist attraction.
The sculpture, a gilded flower bauhinia, is six metres high. The major part is composed of a bauhinia on a base of red granite pillar on a pyramid.
The sculpture is deemed an important symbol for the Hong Kong people after the handover. On the second day ofĀ Chinese New YearĀ andĀ National Day of the People's Republic of China, the square is lighted up by a firework show. The Golden Bauhinia has also been nicknamed the "GoldenĀ Pak Choi" by locals.
TakeĀ MTR to Wan Chai Station Exit A5. Walk across the footbridge, go right and pass through the lobby of the Central Plaza, go on walking across the linking overhead walkway, then get down to the ground level. Walk towards the waterfront ahead, and the statue and monument is on the left. It is about a 15mins' walk.
2. Take the ferryboat from Tsim Sha Tsui Star Ferry PierĀ to Wan Chai.
3. Take Bus 25A, 307C, 905, 905P, 914X, 914P, 961, 961P, 978, 978A, or 978b to the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, and then walk north to the square.
