📍At Dhobi Ghat, Barrackpore, West Bengal Barrackpore is a city and a municipality of urban Kolkata of North 24 Parganas district in the Indian state of West Bengal. It is also a part of the area covered by Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority. It is the headquarters of the Barrackpore subdivision. Barrackpore is famous because the first British barrack was built here in the year 1772. After settling here, Britishers spread their control over India conquering different states. In the 19th century two major revolts took place in Barrackpore for attaining Independence. The name Barrackpore is probably derived from there having been troops stationed there—in barracks—since 1772.
