There are over one hundred big and small Tea Gardens around Silchar which are some of the best scenic spots and extremely beautiful. Endowed with natural splendor, Silchat Town is surrounded by undulating hills with a rich soil and the most conducive atmosphere for the cultivation of tea. Ever since 1839, when the British allowed tea companies to rent land for the cultivation of tea, several plantations have mushroomed and substantial progress witnessed with the advent of new technology and machinery for processing and packaging of tea. Noted for its rich flavor, strong color and aroma, most of the produce from these tea estates are exported to all parts of the World. Around 400 million kilograms of tea seems to come from tea gardens from all regions Assam of which Silchar contributes an important portion. Mejenta Tea Eastate is one of them, it's 35 km from Silchar town, you have to hire a cab to visit this garden.
