📍Kecamatan Gondomanan

After walking around and shopping in the Malioboro area, take a moment to stop by Fort Vredeburg, which is located south of Beringharjo Market, not far from the Big Post Office intersection. Fort Vredeburg is the oldest lodge (large building typical of the Netherlands) of all Indis buildings in the Malioboro area and Kilometer Zero Point. This magnificent building has a long series of stories and historical records, so it's a shame if you miss it to visit. Fort Vredeburg was built in 1760 by the Dutch government, which at that time was worried about the rapid progress of the Yogyakarta Palace. The reason the Dutch used when they built the fort which was only a cannon's throw away from the palace was to maintain the security of the palace and its surroundings. Of course that's just a trick. Originally the fort was used as the center of strategy and defense as well as a blockade of the palace. The building which was originally named Rustenburg (rest) was later renamed Vredenburg which means peace. The name change was carried out after the renovation of the fort which was damaged by a major earthquake. Although renovated, the shape of the fort building remains the same as when it was originally built, namely a complete square with 4 bastions or guard rooms in each corner. As a place of defense, Fort Vredeburg was equipped with a gate facing west, a perimeter wall, a moat, and a drawbridge. Currently behind the fort there is an entrance that connects Vredeburg Fort, Yogyakarta Cultural Park, and Smart Park. In accordance with the ups and downs of conditions in ancient Indonesia, Fort Vredeburg also experienced a change of hands from one ruler to another. Its functions also changed, starting from the fortress of the Dutch troops, shelters for residents, places of detention, army headquarters, and now finally functioned as a place to learn the history of the Indonesian struggle, aka the Vredeburg Fort Museum. Before entering the Vredeburg Fort area, you will cross a bridge that crosses over the moat that used to serve as a place of defense. Entering the fort, the atmosphere looks cool. Beautiful gardens and shaded by large trees are fun to be used as a place to relax. You can sit on the grass, on concrete chairs, or in the hallways of Dutch-style buildings that have large doors and high roofs. Even though it is hundreds of years old, the rows of buildings still look solid and not weathered by time. There are so many things you can do in this place. For architecture fans, seeing this complex of buildings with past designs will be an exciting journey. If you are a history buff, then entering and seeing the various dioramas in the museum is a must. Apart from these two things, you can do many other things such as photo hunting, eating at Indische Koffie, to just enjoying the breeze in the park. . . #Guidebook #indonesia #pindlegems
