Tehri Dam, Uttarakhand

The Tehri Dam is an earth and rockfill dam. Its spillway system consists of a chute spillway (consisting of three spillway radial gates) and four-shaft spillways. It is designed for Probable Maximum Flood (PMF) of 15540 cumecs and a drop of 220 m. The reservoir has a gross storage capacity of 3540 MCM and an effective storage capacity of 2615 MCM. Reaching a staggering height of 260 meters, the imposing Tehri Dam is one of the tallest dams in the world and the tallest dam in India. An engineering marvel in itself, Tehri Dam provides more than 1,000 MW of hydroelectricity and is a popular tourist attraction in Uttarakhand. #MyTravelStory2
