Dev Deepawali or Diwali of Gods is a festival of lights celebrated on Katrit Purnima when brigh full moon one can easily observe. The festival takes place 15days after Diwali. Varanasi is that magical place of India, where this festival celebrated very widely. The steps of all theĀ ghatsĀ on the riverfront of theĀ GangesĀ River, are lit with more than a million earthen lamps in honour ofĀ Ganga. Mythologically, the gods are believed to descend to Earth to bathe in the Ganges on this day. During Dev Deepawali, houses are decorated with oil lamps and coloured designs on their front doors. Firecrackers are burnt at night, processions of decorated deities are taken out into the streets of Varanasi, and oil lamps are set afloat on the river.
