The Queen's memorial

Topped by the Angel of Victory, the Victoria Memorial was Lord Curzon's way of paying tribute to Queen Victoria, the 2nd longest-ruling monarch of Britain. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Conceptualised in 1901, the building took 15 years to be completed and the funds were totally voluntarily given by the Princely States, Raj citizens and the Govt. in London. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ For those architecture lovers out there, it has inspiration from Egyptian, Islamic, Venetian, and Deccani structures. It's made completely out of carved Makrana marble which is what the Taj Mahal is made of in Agra. Martin & Co. (listed in BSE) set up special quarries in Makrana, Rajasthan to dig up the marble! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ As a part of decolonisation after 1947, many of the statues erected by the British all over India were either removed, replaced by Indian ones or moved to the garden of Victoria Memorial.
