Alu-Alu (Bamboo dance of the Melanau - Sarawak)

In the past,the Alu-Alu dance was dance to entertain the guest during funeral of A-Likou aristocrats.(So that the guest stay awake until the burial of the Aristocrat.)But today this bamboo dance is perform to entertain the VVIP to the village and during Kaul festival in April. The Melanau are considered among the earliest settlers in Sarawak.They call themselves a-likou meaning “people of the river”.
