2. Fishing Time! πππ¬
πBa'kelalan
π· - This is how the traditional rattan/bamboo 'Bubu' trap is used for catching fish. Dig those mud around it and block the pathway for the fish to swim into the Bubu. Muddy job but fun especially when you get those fishes into the trap! That also means, food on the table for dinner! πππ½π
π - Every year after the harvesting month which usually ends after the month of January, the rice paddy fields all over Ba'Kelalan will be cleared and this is the time when fishes will be abundance in presence! Fishing enthusiasts will normally be seen catching fish by hand, with fishing rods or even with the traditional 'Bubu' - a fish trap made of rattan or bamboo.
π‘ - Ba'Kelalan is a valley in the Northern Highlands of Sarawak, which comprises of 9 villages inhabited by the ethnic group of the Lun Bawang, one of the Orang Ulu (people of the interior) tribes in Sarawak. Ba'Kelalan is situated at an altitude of about 900 metres above sea level, the climate is much cooler here and the forest vegetation is different from the lowland rainforests. It is 150km from the nearest town of Lawas and just 4km from the border with Indonesian Kalimantan.

My parents used to do this a lot while we just played in the mud and wait for food at night. Amazing that you all still do this in Ba' Kelalan - makes me want to visit more!

The baskets seem similar to ours. just that, ours a bit long with like a narrow top as a handle. you then walk around hopping it from place to place and if the fish gets caught up, you reach it out through a not so big opening made on the sides of the basket. great discovery for me
