February 1, 2026Characteristics of the Natuna Sea
πIndonesia
The Natuna Regency has many sites, including granite rocks that are more than 100 million years old. The field of culture and history is no less interesting, including the pantun tradition in the Riau Archipelago which is being proposed to become a world cultural heritage through UNESCO.
Natuna sea potential can also become a maritime geopark. Moreover, Natuna is included in the history of the Indonesian Spice Route. During the socialization, many regional potentials were revealed that were not widely known, even by the Natuna people themselves.
Natuna for a thousand years became an important point of shipping routes from the South China Sea to the Indian Ocean. Since the era of the Sriwijaya Kingdom, the Majapahit Kingdom (7th to 11th century) the Natuna Islands have become the center of an international sea port.
It is recorded that more than 10 thousand artifacts have been verified and have been examined by archaeologists. Among them are various Chinese relics from the eras of the Tang, Chung, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties, as well as relics from the kingdoms of Vietnam, Thailand, Khmer, Japan, Iran and Europe.
Not only that, Natuna is also rich in relics from various kingdoms in the archipelago. And that is historical evidence that Natuna was a prosperous seaport in the golden era of Srivijaya and Majapahit.
There are at least 8 geosides that are included in the Natuna Geopark. Namely Akar Island, Sharpening Stone, Mount Ranai, Gua Beach, Kamak, Senua Island, Stanau Island, Senubing, and Tanjung Datuk.
The area owned by Natuna fulfills the requirements to be designated as a National Geopark. It stretches from the south to the north, and covers almost half of the eastern side of Bunguran Island.
Geopark is a management concept for the development of an area in a sustainable manner, by combining three natural diversities. Namely geology (geodiversity), biology (biodiversity), and culture (culturaldiversity).
The concept is based on aspects of conservation, education, community empowerment, and growing local economic value through geotourism.
In addition, geoparks require that an area must not change its natural shape. Therefore, it is necessary to involve the community to maintain and process it. Thus, the area can be used as a tourist attraction, research site, flora-fauna conservation and so on.
Friends Are Curious About This Enchanting Nature of Natuna. Waiting for his arrival to adventure together in Natuna, right?ππ
